Ex-Minister of Power Collapses in Court Amid N33bn Fraud Case

Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, collapsed outside the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday due to ill health, shortly before his arraignment on charges of money laundering totaling N33 billion. Mamman, who served under former President Buhari from 2019 to 2021, is accused of conspiring with ministry staff to divert about N22 billion from the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects.

Investigations uncovered properties in Nigeria and overseas allegedly linked to the suspects, and millions of naira and dollars have reportedly been recovered.

Mamman, treated by court medical personnel after collapsing, cited medication taken on an empty stomach as the cause. His counsel, Femi Ate, SAN, requested an adjournment due to Mamman’s health, but Justice James Omotosho rescheduled the arraignment to September due to a busy court docket. Despite the incident, Mamman later confirmed he was fit to continue with the proceedings.
