Ex-Accountant General Pleads for Time to Refund Looted Funds

Anamekwe Nwabuoku, former acting Accountant-General of the Federation, requested more time from the Federal High Court in Abuja to refund public funds allegedly looted by him and his co-defendant, Felix Nweke. Both are facing 11 counts of money laundering totaling N1.6 billion. Nwabuoku and Nweke, who committed the alleged crimes while Nwabuoku was the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Ministry of Defence, are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Their lawyers informed the court of substantial refunds made and requested an adjournment to finalize the administrative procedure for the repayments. The EFCC acknowledged receipt of a proposal letter but stated that no agreement has been reached yet.
