Alleged Fraud: EFCC, ICPC Urged to Probe Ex-Kaduna Governor

A group, Kaduna K-23 Movement (KK-23 M), has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and all his collaborators indicted by the report of the House of Assembly probe committee, saying, “Kaduna must have justice without delay as justice delayed is justice denied.”

The report had revealed that between May 2015 and May 2023, when El-Rufai was in the saddle, the state incurred a liability on domestic and foreign loans of over N98.9 billion and $758,141,699 respectively, which were allegedly obtained without regard to extant financial rules and due process, and were allegedly diverted for other uses.

President and General Secretary of the group, Bashir Bello and Idris Musa, at a press conference, yesterday, praised Governor Uba Sani for refusing to interfere with the investigation of the Committee despite mounting pressure by elements from within and outside.

“The report of the Kaduna State House of Assembly on recent mind-boggling revelations of monumental corruption perpetrated by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai during his eight-year stint as the Governor of Kaduna State necessitated this press conference to call on the Fourth Estate of the Realm, the anti-corruption agencies, civil society organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians, to stand up against corruption and demand accountability to the people of Kaduna State, who were made to carry the burden of debt in the past and are still carrying it, and would continue to suffer in future from the burden of debt left behind.

“We commend the Kaduna State House of Assembly for taking the bull by the horns in rising to the occasion by discharging its legislative responsibility of holding the executive to account. The report of the House of Assembly Committee has exposed the reckless abuse of power, gargantuan corruption, financial banditry, disregard for due process, and criminal wastage of state resources perpetrated by the erstwhile administration of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.”
