Police Arrest

The Anambra State police command has arrested four suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a group linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in Ufuma, Orumba North.

According to a statement released by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police-led joint security force in Aguata carried out the operation on June 17 based on intelligence indicating planned attacks on security personnel and civilians by the group.

“Among the four suspects arrested is Maduabuchi Nwafor, also known as Omenkpo, aged 32, a native of Ufuma. He is identified as a native doctor who prepares charms for the group and uses his shrine for initiation ceremonies and meetings. Another suspect, whose name is withheld, confessed to being one of the gunmen deployed by the group to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order on May 30, 2024,” SP Ikenga stated.

The commissioner of police in the state, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an extensive investigation to uncover the hideouts of these insurgents, who aim to disrupt and hinder development in the state. The CP reassured the people of Anambra that the police command under his leadership was committed to serving selflessly and would safeguard the identities of informants to protect them from harm.
