A coalition of Kano Civil Societ Organizations- the Kano Unity Forum (KYF) has charged the citizens in the state to shun any form of violence and equally embrace peace and harmony.

In a statement jointly signed by the members of the coalition, they described the ongoing Kano Emirates tussle as unfortunate and called for a ceasefire from the two warring camps.

Emergency Digest reports that there has been tension in the metropolis ever since the dethronment of former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and subsequent reinstatement of Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as 16th Fulani Emir of Kano State.

The statement reads in full below:

“We, the Kano Unity Forum are deeply concerned about the consequences of the unfolding events in kano as regards to the change of guards at the kano emirate council.

“The KYF views this development as unfortunate and should not be used to upset the cherished peace and well being of the law abiding people of kano state. the atmosphere of peace that kano has been enjoying must be maintained.

“We call on all those involved to exercise restraint and consider foremost the general interest of the people as peace is priceless and must be sustained for the good of all. peace is an essential ingredient for government to survive, society to thrive and law and order to endure.”
