Deploy more Personnel to Oyo, State Govt. Appeals to IG

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday in Ibadan appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, to deploy more personnel to the state to effectively police the state.

The State Deputy Governor, Mr Bayo Lawal, made the appeal while hosting the National President of Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, and her team.

Lawal said the state had a huge land size and faced a major challenge of inadequate manpower to adequately police the state.

He said the state, which was not usually having the problem of banditry and kidnapping, has gradually started witnessing this as a result of illegal mining activities in the state.

“Like the usual saying, whatever you want to receive from a husband cleverly go through the wife.

“So, we want to go through you as the wife of the IG and the president of POWA, to help us impress it on him that we need more hands to be able to cover the state for adequate security,” the Deputy Governor said.

Lawal commended the Police Command in the state for the protection of lives and property and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He pledged the continued support of the state governmentto all security agencies in the state.

The deputy governor, while responding on the purpose of the visit of the POWA President which was on agriculture, said the state was ready to support and collaborate with the association.

He said if the state and the country in general was able to feed itself, poverty and crime would be significantly reduced to the barest minimum.

Earlier, the POWA President had said the purpose of her working visit to the state was to enhance food and nutrition.

She said this would also help to secure Nigeria through the UNESCO initiative on Young Women in Agriculture (YWA).

She said POWA was committed to empowering women and wives of men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force as well as fostering innovation.

“We aim to collaborate with the state to nominate women for agriculture programmes in the United States at no cost to the state government.

“Together we can build a future where our community thrives for sustainable agriculture and food security,” Mrs Egbetokun said.

Sources report that the POWA President and her team also visited the Olubadan of Ibadanland-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
