NSCDC: FCT Command Organizes Capacity Building Trainings for Personnel, Pledges Speedy Investigation

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command organizes a four (4) day refresher training for investigators and prosecutors at Area D Command Bwari.

The training is aimed at equipping personnel to be more efficient in handling investigation and ensuring timely prosecution of offenders with a view to tackling criminality and bringing insecurity at the grassroot level in the FCT to the barest minimum.

Speaking during the opening ceremony the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu said, “the training was expedient to bring personnel up to speed with the skills required for prompt dispensation of justice at various levels”.

According to him, “the mandate of NSCDC is very unambiguous as far as arrests and prosecution of offenders is concerned. Hence, the need for training and retraining of personnel is very sacrosanct in implementing the same.

“The Act establishing the Corps as amended in 2007, stipulates that we have the power to arrest, investigate and prosecute offenders under our jurisdiction.

“This training is therefore very important to giving you the necessary skills, knowledge and the tools needed to deliver on our mandates.

“I am aware of the level of insecurity and pockets of threats to lives and property in the Bwari Area Council, that is why we are commencing the training in the Bwari Area Council before extending the same to all the Area Commands in the FCT,” he said.

Odumosu encouraged participants drawn from the five divisions under Area D Command to take advantage of the training in equipping themselves with modern skills in the administration of criminal justice.

He charged them to remain focused, disciplined and committed to the service, while also shunning unhealthy inter-agency rivalry while carrying out their statutory duties.

“After this training you would have been equipped to provide necessary intelligence needed to arrest, investigate and successfully prosecute criminal elements operating within your area of operations.

“There is a need to be professional in all ramifications, your integrity would also be put to the test in the process, and I expect you not to compromise.

“Remember also, that you will be interacting and interfacing with personnel of other security agencies in the cause of doing your job, therefore, endeavour to shun unnecessary rivalry.

“We are all working towards the same goal which is to enforce peace, order and to rid the society of criminals,” the Commandant warned.

While welcoming participants to the training, the Area Commander, ACC Victoria Anga said “the training will cover all extant laws that investigators and prosecutors need to be abreast with”.

She appreciates the Commandant for approving the training stating that it shows “his level of commitment to the growth of the Corps.”
