Anti-Graft War : Integrity, Transparency Imperative for Leadership -Olukoyede
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, emphasized the pivotal role of integrity and transparency in leadership during the inaugural President Umaru Musa Yaradua International Leadership Conference and Awards held in Abuja on May 6, 2024. Olukoyede stressed that effective and trustworthy leadership, whether in the public or private sector, requires these virtues and urged leaders nationwide to embrace them.
Addressing the theme “Moral & Ethical Leadership – Antidote to National Development,” Olukoyede, represented by the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, CE Wilson Uwujaren, urged leaders to emulate the former president’s legacy, known for its integrity, transparency, and fairness.

He noted the existence of laws promoting integrity across the country but lamented their poor enforcement, which contributes to low integrity levels among many Nigerians.
Olukoyede highlighted the EFCC’s alignment with President Yaradua’s legacy, emphasizing the Commission’s dedication to integrity and transparency. He underscored the relevance of these virtues in combating various crimes, such as embezzlement, bribery, and contract inflation, prevalent in both the public and private sectors.
Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to its Establishment Act, Olukoyede vowed unwavering enforcement efforts.
Former Nigerian President Gen. Yakubu Gowon praised President Yaradua for his patriotism and concern for Nigeria’s welfare, particularly evident during his tenure as governor.
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, also speaking at the event, expressed gratitude for honoring President Yaradua’s legacy. He urged Nigerian leaders to confront challenges boldly, fostering hope for a better Nigeria, citing President Yaradua as an exemplary figure.
