Since Kano State has served as Nigeria’s political model for many years, our leaders ought to work to keep it that way. It is depressing to report, though, that the opposite is now true, with state politics taking on a personal component, particularly among certain powerful political figures in the state.

It is no longer a secret that the current administration, led by His Excellency Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, is engaged in a political conflict with Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current National Chairman of the APC, and his predecessor. Actually, the fight won’t benefit the Kano State; instead, it will take its focus away from helping the wonderful people of Kano, who gave the government overwhelming support.

In a democratic environment such as ours, governance is particularly sensitive, and political manoeuvring must be done with extreme prudence. In order to ensure accountability in administration, the Kano state government has announced the creation of two commissions of inquiry to look into concerns of embezzlement, bribery, and illicit transactions of government property. That can only, however, have a beneficial effect if carried out in all sincerity and without any malice against any particular individual.

One can easily identify the course of the panels by taking a close look at the current circumstances and the mandates placed upon the state government’s investigation committees.

Since anything goes around, comes around, and every government has accusations to answer, I would like to use this platform as a legitimate Kano citizen to draw the attention of the state government about the consequences of this action on the government and the good people of Kano. The time to respond will arrive quickly.

I wish to tell His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to stay true to his own values, maintain control over the administration, and guide its operations without falling for anyone’s deceit. I believe that he is a man of vision and a peace-loving leader. This will provide you the confidence to take the initiative and turn Kano into something truly amazing.
