Anambra, Ogun road crashes kill 5, injure scores

Five persons have been killed in two road accidents in Ogun and Anambra states.

While three individuals died in the Ogun auto crash, the Anambra accident claimed two lives.

The two accidents happened Wednesday.


The crash occurred around Fidiwo Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at 1:07 pm, involving a green Toyota jeep marked BDG213BJ.


Daily Trust gathered that the vehicle had suffered a tyre burst, while the driver lost control of the wheels and crashed under the bridge.


Spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.


Okpe said five persons were involved in the accident out of which three died while two others sustained injuries.


She hinted that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while the corpses were deposited at FOS Mortuary in Ipara.


Okpe advised motorists “to drive within the stipulated speed limit and always go on a routine check to detect any fault on their vehicles.”




Two persons lost their lives in an auto crash on the Idemili-Orafite road in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.


The crash, which occurred at Oba junction, involved two unmarked trucks.


It was gathered that one of the victims was trapped in the vehicle following the head-on collision.


Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident.


He said one of the deceased was taken to a nearby mortuary while the other remained trapped inside the vehicle.

He said efforts are underway to extricate the trapped victim.

He sympathised with the deceased family and advised the motoring public to obey traffic rules and avoid divided attention to avert loss of control while driving.
