Banditry Displaces 551 Communities, 289,375 Persons In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Government has said 551 communities across 12 local government areas have been affected by banditry, resulting in 289,375 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the state.

Dr Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), revealed these figures during the flag-off of palliative distribution in Maraban Kajuru.

He said, “In Chikun, we have 134 affected communities and 26,345 displaced individuals. In Birnin Gwari, 84 affected communities and 70,893 displaced, and in numerous other communities across 12 other local governments.”

Dr Mazadu emphasized the urgent need to provide relief to the affected citizens, acknowledging the significant impact of the unfortunate events on the affected communities.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for including the IDPs in the N11.4 billion palliative programme and announced plans to extend the distribution to all affected communities across the identified 12 local governments in the coming weeks.

The distribution was officially launched by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, represented by Barrister James Kanyip, her chief of staff.

Barrister Kanyip reiterated the administration’s commitment to eradicating the threat of banditry and providing support to those affected by insecurity.

He assured that Governor Sani’s administration will continue to prioritize aid, succour, and support for the affected communities.
