Ramadan Feeding: AFRI-CIRD Hails Gov Yusuf’s Action, Calls for CSOs Engagement Toward Enhanced Transparency

A Kano-based think-tank, African Centre for Innovative Research and Development (AFRI-CIRD) has thrown weight behind the Kano State Governor, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf for condemning the distribution of substandard food at one of the Ramadan feeding centers within the metropolis.

This was disclosed in a statement signed and sent to Emergency Digest by the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the organization, Mohammed Bello.

Mr.  Bello described the unlawful act as betrayal of trust of the Governor and therefore called for thorough investigation of the matter so as to hold the perpetrators accountable to their actions.

The CEO also advocates for engagement of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the process of monitoring and implementation of the feeding program in order to enhance overall transparency and accountability.

The statement reads in full below:

“The African Centre for Innovative Research and Development (AFRI-CIRD) strongly supports the Kano State Government in condemning the quality of food provided during the state government’s On-going Ramadan feeding initiative. This was established by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf when he visited the Gidan Maza feeding Centre in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of the State.

“The Governor expressed deep concern over the quality of food provided, which he described as ‘nonsense’ during such a critical process. Urgent action is required to uphold transparency and accountability.

“The Governor’s disappointment highlights a betrayal of trust and disregard for the sanctity of Ramadan. AFRI-CIRD strongly condemns this act and demands swift and decisive measures to hold responsible parties accountable under the law.  AFRI-CIRD urges the government of Kano State to take immediate action to address this issue and ensure that those responsible face appropriate consequences.

“AFRI-CIRD is urging the government to involve organized civil society organizations (CSOs) in the entire feeding centres set up across the state. By including CSOs, transparency, oversight, and accountability can be enhanced, thus restoring faith in the integrity of the initiative. The organization believes that involving CSOs to track, monitor, and report the implementation of the Ramadan feeding program will add more credibility to the process. This will not only ensure that quality food is provided but also ensure that the program reaches its intended beneficiaries and delivers much-needed support during this holy month.

“As an organization dedicated to promoting good governance and accountability, AFRI-CIRD emphasizes the importance of upholding ethical standards in all public welfare initiatives. Let us work together to condemn corruption and strive towards creating a more just and transparent society for all citizens.”
