Nigeria, UNESCO Partner on Empowering Women, Other Vulnerables

In its avowed determination to ensure poverty reduction at the grassroots level across the country, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with the aim of empowering women, children and the vulnerable through skills acquisition and provision of start up kits for sustainable development

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye disclosed this today when a delegation from the UNESCO led by its Country Director, Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo, visited her in her office in Abuja.

She stated that for the Gender equality ecosystem to come into full actualization in the country, women need not only to be trained in various skills that will boost their opportunities but also equipped with kits relevant to their areas of specialisation in order to enable them earn a good living for the upkeep of their families as well as for the growth and development of the nation

Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration is committed to providing opportunities for job creation and social inclusiveness of all category of persons, especially at the grassroots levels across the country

This she added, will not only ensure peace and stability in the country, but also provide an enabling environment for investments in the country, thereby contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation.

The Minister assured that the Ministry is open for collaboration with different bodies, stakeholders as well as agencies, in line with its mandate and the policy thrust of the present administration

Earlier, the Country Representative, UNESCO, Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo stated that they were in the Ministry to seek possible areas of collaboration towards the realization of the Ministry’s mandate

He assured that UNESCO will support the efforts of government through the provision of training and skills acquisition to enable for job creation, poverty reduction and social inclusivity
