Akwa Ibom: FG Confirms Arrest of Lawyer for Assaulting Wife
The Federal Government has arrested Ekere Ebong, the wife-battering lawyer in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, whose video went viral yesterday over the assault on his wife
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye who disclosed this today while briefing journalists on the incident in her office in Abuja, stated that the police has since arreested him and taken him into custody
Kennedy Ohanenye who informed that she received complaints about the incident from various sources, added that she intervened by seeking the expertise of the police who immediately ensured his arrest.

While expressing concern over the incident, the Minister emphasized that he will be sued to court immediately, in accordance with the law, to serve as deterrent to other would-be offenders.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants the poor to breathe and the Ministry is fully committed to ensuring this, we will therefore leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is meted to anyone who molests Nigerian children, women and the vulnerable in society,” she said
Kennedy-Ohanenye who stated further that the current administration would not tolerate any form of assault on women and girls, reaffirmed that the Ministry remains dedicated to a renewed approach in combating social vices that disproportionately impact women.
It will be recalled that In a five-minute video on WhatsApp yesterday, December 17; Mr Ebong was seen assaulting his wife.
