FG moves to enhance nursing mothers’ productivity, to establish creches across MDAs

With a view to ensuring optimal productivity and efficient service delivery to Nigerians by nursing and working mothers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that his administration is committed to the establishment of creches in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government so as to provide them the opportunity to contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation

 

The President disclosed this today in a goodwill message during the Commissioning of the National Model Work Place Nursery by Her Excellency, the First Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu held in Abuja

 

He stated that the establishment of the creches in MDAs will enable the mothers bond with their infants as well as boost their brain and nutrition without compromising their commitment to work

 

The President who was represented by his Special Assistant on Health, Dr. Salmon Anas, stated further that the initiative which is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration, will not only ensure social inclusiveness among nursing women but will also tackle psychological trauma  experienced in the first 1000 days of their children’s life because of their career.

 

While commissioning the Facility, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu stated that many mothers suffer psychological trauma on resumption of duty after delivery because of the separation from their infants, especially within the first early years of life

 

Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, Senator Oluremi informed that the establishment of the Work Place Nursery stands as a testament to the present administration’s commitment towards creating an inclusive and supportive environment for working and nursing mothers

 

*As a mother and an advocate for a better life for families, I am passionate about championing initiatives that empower and uplift the lives of our citizens, especially our women and children*, she said

 

Senator Oluremi commended the Management and Staff of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the Honourable Minister, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye in particular for revitalizing the facility which had been non-operational for the past 13 years owing to the bomb blast at the Nigeria Police Headquarters, thus bringing relief and comfort to working and nursing mothers.

 

While reiterating the present administration’s Baby Friendly Initiative, the First Lady named the Work Place Nursery after the wife of the former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon as *Dr (Mrs) Victoria Gowon National Model Work Place Nursery*.

 

She therefore encouraged parents to utilise the Facility , adding that *nurturing a child up is proof of your strength and resilience*

 

Responding, the wife of the former Head of State , Dr (Mrs,) Victoria Gowon, stated that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the  children, being the future of every nation, receive adequate nurturing, love and care from all governments.

 

She thanked Senator Oluremi Tinubu for the honour done to her and the Management and Staff of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs for creating the enabling environment for bonding between working, nursing mothers and their babies through the resuscitation of the Work Place Nursery (Creche)

 

Earlier, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye stated that the Ministry was fully committed to the full implementation of the policies, programmes and initiatives of the Federal Government that has direct impact on the lives of women, children and people with disabilities so as to give them a sense of belonging.

 

She thanked President Bola  Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his masses-friendly Agenda which aims not only at alleviating the pains of the common man but also empowering them  politically, economically and psychological for the socio-economic development of the nation.
