Plateau State government has set up a committee to investigate the immediate officials of the Muslim Pilgrim Welfare over alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to individuals who paid their money for last year pilgrimage but could not travel to the Holy land.

The government also said aside from funds belonging to private individuals, there are other sharp practices discovered by the government following a series of complaints from members of the public.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang who inaugurated the committee members at Government House in Jos said the committee was expected to investigate all financial activities of the board from June 2015 to May 2023.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc Samuel Nanchang Jatau, the governor said the committee was expected to submit its report in the next four weeks.

He urged them to do the needful, adding that “As members of this committee, you are to ascertain the number of pilgrims, both self-sponsored and government-sponsored as well as to provide details of bank balances.”

The governor also maintained that his administration would continue to support the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Board in its bid to have hitch-free Hajj exercises in the state, urging them to do a credible job and make appropriate recommendations.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Abubakar Kanam on behalf of the committee, said they would do everything possible to be just and ensure no stone was left unturned.
