An unidentified man has been lynched by a mob in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, over an accusation that he stole a motorcycle.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this to City Round on Friday, adding that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation into the case.

Nansel said, “At about 9:20 am on October 20, 2023, information was received that a mob was attacking an unidentified man in the A.A. Koto area of Akwanga.

“Upon receipt of the information, policemen raced to the scene, and upon sighting the policemen, the mob dispersed. The corpse of one unidentified person was found lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the General Hospital Akangwa where he was confirmed dead and subsequently deposited at the morgue.

“It was alleged that the victim was accused of stealing a Bajaj motorcycle, but we are yet to prove that. An investigation is ongoing. We call on members of the public to stop taking laws into their hands. They should avoid jungle justice as anyone found or caught will be made to face the full weight of the law.”
