Towards Improving Education in Niger State

If sustainable development and peace must return to Niger State, there must be a concerted effort to eradicate illiteracy and put skills acquisition in the right place for society by the government. Lack of literacy and skills acquisition pose a great challenge to people, it keeps the people in bondage as caged slaves for their entire lives. Quality and skills education should be a right of every child in Niger State. Immediately you educate people they will put knowledge to use.

The conditions of technical schools and other conventional schools in Niger State are troubling. The world today is driven by ideas of sciences and technology, creating enabling ways for self-reliance and sustainable development. Many countries in the world and states in Nigeria have recorded their development today as a result of pertinent investment in education.

Specifically, science and technology subjects are used today to support the eradication of poverty and increase the technical mindset of people all over the world: China, Israel, Germany, America, South Africa, etc, other states like Osun, Kaduna, Lagos, Borno, Imo, etc are a good example of this.

I don’t think Niger State can’t do it, we are equal to the task as known state in Nigeria.

History judges that one of the major factors causing the insecurity and unemployment in the North East part of the country can be traced to the lack of proper and oriented education for citizens after they “the current leaders” benefited from our forefather’s efforts. The school settings were in regretful conditions. Gov Shetima tried to correct that by renovating some schools, and even building new standard schools.

For example, Ndayako Day Secondary School Bida, Niger State, known as a prestigious school in Niger State and the world at large have enough technical equipment in the early 1990s for mechanic, mental, and woodwork, but today go and look at the sorry state of the school. It is not Ndayako alone, virtual many schools in every part of the state. especially technical schools.

Although Niger State Government is selecting schools for renovations. Yes is part of effective efforts, but, the government needs to act quickly to avoid the explosion of sitting bombs “illiteracy and lack of skill acquisition”.

Assuming the Government was able to support its policy of changing some schools to science schools, and financing, and supplied them with both manpower and resources, now, the level of insecurity and unemployment would have been reduced; for instance, the technical and vocational schools have in Niger State have recorded more 2000 students graduated since 2015. These students should have equipped with science and are technically wise to be self-reliant.

Look at, Aregbesola Former Governor of Osun state converted the technical schools to modern ones with “World driven knowledge”. El-rufai and Shetima and Zulum of Kaduna and Borno respectively did well in education, especially in the infrastructural development section. This human project is key to building a viable state, these Govs are laying a solid foundation for the states.

The former Coordinator of school projects of Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, in the person of Dr. Ibrahim Dooba, keeps posting and communicating with people on the educational projects the state embarking on. But, it seems this idea is warping away gradually.

There is no way you expect sound academicians, scientists, technologists, and good leaders and followers to emerge without a good educational foundation. Niger State has many technical and science schools but, DO THE FOUNDATION OF STUDENTS OK TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVE?

Purely, the answer is no, the schools need a bailout from collapsing and damaging.

Therefore, Government needs to intervene and double efforts, and make sure the schools are fixed rightly so that it will save and help societies out of poverty as well no capital ideas.

The appointment of people to spearhead the bodies in charging the section affairs should be considered serious, then, technocrat people, and people that will add value to the system, not people who will like to increase self-wealth.

Thorough supervision should be carried out to make sure all materials, and assignments are properly done. As well as monitoring and evaluation to be considered.

There should be capacity building for the staff and students respectively, for everlasting service.

The community also should ensure that all materials are saved, and report any dubious person to appropriate authorities.

Let them carry out their work diligently and unambiguously.

I promise you if the government surely heeds to these issues, our society will change positively.
