Engineer Gambo Shuaibu Malam: Unveiling the New Commissioner of Works for Jigawa State

The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi Danmodi has recently unveiled his cabinet that will help in steering the wheels of the administration towards achieving the required mandates successfully.

One of the few capable brains to make the list is Engineer Gambo Shuaibu Malam who was appointed to carry an oversight function on the ministry of works on behalf of the Governor.

Many people will not be surprised by seeing Engineer Shuaibu being enshrined with this great task courtesy of his past track records of accomplishments in the various capacities he has served while in service.

In fact, ever since his appointment, a lot of pundits and other public figures have been describing this development as a ‘square peg in a square hole.’

It is without doubt that readers will agree with this writer about the aforementioned assertion when the profile of Engineer Shuaibu is briefly x-rayed.

Mr. Shuaibu was born on the 21st January, 1962 in Aujara town of Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State. He attended Aujara Central Primary School and later proceeded to Damboa Secondary School for his secondary education.

He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering and Masters in the same field from Bayero University Kano.

Engineer Shuaibu completed his mandatory one year national service for the country under the aegis of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC before joining the service of Jigawa State.

He worked with Jigawa State ministries of Water Resources and Ministry of Works where he held various positions including Director Civil Engineering and Permanent Secretary in the Jigawa State Ministry of Water Resources.

In terms of professional bodies membership, Mr. Shuaibu is a Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers (FNICE), Fellow International Association of Engineers (IAENG) and Fellow Institute of Water Engineers among others.

He was one time the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and member of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

While given back to the society, Engineer Shuaibu deemed it necessary to complement Government efforts in enhancing educational development in the society. As such, he is the Founder and Proprietor of Al-Iqra’a College of Nursing Dutse.

The renowned traditional figure and technocrat retired from service as Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Water Resources. Interestingly, Engineer Gambo Shuaibu Malam was never found wanting due to misappropriation of any magnitude throughout his career in public service.

It is heartwarming that looking at his antecedents while in service, Governor Namadi Danmodi found him worthy of appointment as Commissioner of works.

His appointment was celebrated by the overwhelming majority of the people of the state because of his integrity and confidence they reposed in him.

It is hoped that the astute and highly experienced Engineer will surpass his expectations within the shortest time possible towards sailing Jigawa to the promised land- preferably, the ‘El Dorado.’

Don’t forget, Engineer Shuaibu holds the traditional title of ‘Sarkin Shanun Dutse.’
