Barau I. Jibrin: A Senator with Strategic Leadership Skills

William Authur Ward once said ‘The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates while the great teacher inspires.’
Based on this I have always believed that in the realm of politics, leadership and democratic governance, Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin is indeed a great teacher for he has greatly inspires and influence many young politicians within his constituency and beyond with his unrival political mastery, his charismatic leadership styles as well genorous and philanthropic pedigree.
To all keen observers of the happenings in the Kano politics, and more recently the Nigerian political space, it is evidently clear that Senator Barau has been persistently and emphatically demonstrating his inspiring leadership qualities and succesfull political capabilities that uniquely stood him out among hi contemporaries.
Senator Barau is regarded by many as a political maestro, a fearless and courageous political gladiator who has clearly exhibited his plitical capabilities by consistently winning the Kano-North senatorial seat against all odds.
More significantly, in the most rercent election despite the threats of annihilation faced by APC in Kano he was able to tachtically and strategically defied the NNPP’s onslaught and internal party wranglings to not only clintch his senatorial seat but does that in grand style by winning large proportion of votes, for himself and for the presidential candidates as well.
In fact many of the succesfull APC candidates for the House of representative from Kano-North were believed to have been influenced by Senator Barau’s political strategy.
He has continously distinguished himself as a great politician and master strategists with a large army of die-hard supporters, a solid and ideologically-based followership and an impeccable political pedigree.
He is a man of Timber and caliber, highly equipped with track record of success working both as a succesfull lawmaker, and prudent and transparent administrative technocrat who has never been involvede in any form of scandal of any corrupt practices by any of the fedral or state anti-graft agencies.
Motivated by his succesfull outing in the 2023 general elections which clearly proved that Senator Barau is the lifeline of APC in the North-Western geo-political region, he was pursuaded by mapacitated leader any stakeholders in the region to expand his political boundaries and further confirm his strategic leadership attributes by declaring interest to contest for the leadership of the 10th senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

And after he succesfully demonstrated his capacitated political sagacity by galvanising the support and endorsement of morethan half of the senate membership, he was however pleaded by the then presiden-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) consider National interest and his love for the nation’s peace, unity and stability to step aside and deputise Senator Godswill Akpabio the plea which he agrees even against the wish of many of his supporters.
Immediately he emerges as the Deputy President of the 10th Senate, it becomes glaringly clear that Senator Barau is great team player, a visionary and strategic leader by forming a formidable partnership and synergy among all the various interest groups the chracterised the upper chamber.
With in less than 30 days of his emergence as the Deputy Senate President he has on several pleanary sessions presided over the senate succesfully, effectively and eloquently (for the first time in the history of Nigerian democracy), which further demonstrated the rate at which the senate president and other distinguished collegues believes in his capacity and strategic leadership qualities.
However, this is not surprising especially to the followers of Senator Barau’s political journey and rise to prominance, been a highly experienced legislature who had held positions of the appropriation committee in both the lower and upper chambers and has been succesfull in discharging his duties and guaranteeing through budget oversight. He has also served as the vice-chairman of the senates’s committee on petroleum resources (Downstream) and later served as the chairperson of the same committee.
Away from the legislature, Senator Barau Jibrin has equally distinguished himself as a prudent administrator and technocrat per excellence as he had previously succesfully served in various administrative and executive positions such as the chairtman of the Kano State Investment and Properties Limited (KSIP), Kano State Commissioner for Science and Technology and a Member of a Committee for Budgetry procedure.
Conclusively, it is evidently clear that the success of this new administration in actualising its much anticipated ‘RENEWED HOPE’ depends largely on the capacity of the legislative leadership with which they will work (especially in the peak of this transpormative crisis resulting from certasin economic poloicies), and the the 10th senate will no doubt benefit from the legislative and administrative experience, progressive and citizens oriented political sagacity as well as strategic and exceptional leadership qualities which distinguished Senator Barau Jibrin Is hugely endowned with.
