Resurgence of Banditry and Kidnapping: Niger Community Cries Out, Tasks IG, Bago for Urgent Action
The residents of Kusherki ward in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have appealed to Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and Governor Umar Bago to come to their aid over rising security challenges bedeviling their community.
According to them, there has lately been resurgence in the heinous activities of the terrorists including cattle rustling, kidnapping, wounding and killing of victims.
This information was disclosed in a statement sent to Emergency Digest which was signed by Mustapha Kusherki, a community leader.
The statement reads as follow;
“The communities of kusherki ward wish to draw the attention of Federal Government, The Governor of Niger State, Alh. Hon Umar Muhammad Bago And His Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Niger State and other Stakeholders that the activities of Bandits, Cattle Rustling and Insurgency have being on the increase in the WARD.

“In fact, day before yesterday night (22th June, 2023), the bandit freely attacked Tsohon-Garin Kusherki and killed 2 persons, kidnapped 18 others and carted away with properties of large sum of money.
“Till this time no any security agent or Government official attempted visit or sympathized with the communities.
“That as a matter of fact for the past 15 days now, the Bandit have made the Communities of the Kusherki Ward as a Free Zone with no security back up or support except for the effort of the inhabitants to save their lives and properties.
“It is on records that within last 2weeks alone, Bandit have attacked Kusherki Zara, Hayin Gando, Unguwan Galadima, Lamba, Kwambo and Ganin Gari Villages, carted away with Cattle, boats and other valuables including money.
“Most of the people in this Communities have left their Villages, Houses, Farms and Businesses and are currently squatting in Pandogari Town And Birnin Gwari as refuges.
“In view of above, THE ENTIRE COMMUNITIES OF KUSHERKI WARD are calling for the immediate provision of security in the affected areas and the entire Local Government Area.”
