How to Enhance Civil Service in Niger State
Having this as one of the prioritized actions to be given due consideration by His Excellency is a sure way to success provided a holistic approach is taken. Civil Service is the catalyst that pilots the working systems of every government. Civil Service is that organ that if not properly managed can lead to an aggressive fall of any government. Civil Service is the engine of government, it is more or less an important organ that must be handled well.
Civil Service is composed of human beings who are by the necessary rules and regulations needed for maximum performance. As such, being human beings they are subject to have what will keep them calm, encourage them and subject them to do the right things. Therefore, Civil Service must be armed with palliatives that are the antidote to committing what they are not to be committed.
However, the recent appointment of the Head of Service (HoS) has indeed paved the way for the rejuvenation of the Niger State Civil Service. My duty now is to profer advice to him on those areas that can revolutionize the State’s Civil Service. I, therefore, provide as follows:

i-There must be a change of attitude by the entire civil servants of the State. Notably general change of conduct like:
a- Prompt to office.
b-Full compliance with Civil Service Rules.
c-Define the schedule of
duties of each officer.
ii-Government must give what is due to each Civil Servant such as:
a-Not to interfere with their
monthly emolument in
form of cutting their
salaries by percentages.
blow them to have their
rightful entitlements.
iii- Always send them for refresher courses to improve upon their knowledge.
iv-Punish any infractions and award any perfections.
v- Restoration of annual leave grants and payment to them if there should be any form of arrears.Housing to be provided to civil Servants in their areas of operations.
vi- At their retirement ensure they are promptly paid their entitlement and constant payment of monthly pension.
Above all each sectional Head must exhibit a system of leadership by example like:
a- Promptness to the office.
b- Avoidance of any form of
corruption.
c-Respect the immediate
Leader/s so that the
Juniors can follow suit.
Once the civil service is well managed, motivated, and supported with the necessary tools, the failure of that government will be hard.
