Plot to truncate Tinubu’s swearing-in dangerous – Cleric warns

The National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheik AbdurRahman Ahmad, has described the alleged attempt to truncate the swearing-in of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29 as dangerous.

The spokesman for All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council,Festus Keyamo, had earlier raised the alarm over alleged plots to truncate the transition process.

Speaking at the annual Ramadan lecture of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday, the Islamic cleric said such a move would disunite the country.

He said, “It will be unwise for anyone to think they can use extrajudicial means to truncate the swearing-in. That will be dangerous because it is at the heart of the unity of this country. It is also at the heart of the well-being of the people. If we must have a country, then we must live by the constitution.

“And if there is an election and it has not been nullified through a proper legal pronouncement, then the swearing-in must go on. Those who are thinking that they will truncate it should have a rethink in their own interest and the interest of Nigeria as a country and Nigerians as a people.”

Ahmad, who spoke on the topic, “Towards the Ultimate Success,” described Ramadan as a season of mercy and a period when Muslim faithful should extend hands of love to the underpriviledged.

“People are going through a lot in the country. There is no food and money. So, Muslim faithful should share their resources with these people and also provide food for them to break their fast,” he added.

The chairman of the state chapter of the society, Abdurahman Salaudeen, said the event sought to reawaken the spiritual alertness of the members.

“The essence of the gathering is also to use this Ramadan season to reawaken the sense of unity that binds us as a nation,” he said.
