Personality traits and Leadership Recruitment: A case of Hon Umar Bago

A lot of Social scientists and Management Scholars defined and interpret Personality and leadership recruitment from both psychoanalytic and Political theory or philosophical viewpoints. They identify a leader base on certain qualities, ie Foresight, ambition to achieve, perseverance, tolerance, consent of the people, charisma, and knowledge. All combined in one person.
Management Scholars simply pick a leader base on his ability to plan, control, coordinate, and direct others to achieve predetermined objectives or goals.
Political philosophy on the other hand poses a question first, as to whether a leader could be ‘Born’ or ‘Achieved’. work of Max Weber and Abraham Maslow clashed from two angles. First Weber considered a leader from with Traditional leaders which are Ascribed, based on bloodline, tradition/culture, and Charisma. Second, the Rational-legal authority is based on competence and experience.
Putting all these together, You may agree with me, that Leadership is better achieved, through competence and experience in modern days.
The political theory then hangs leadership on the ability of the people to recruit those competent people. Hence the works of Aristotle categorized the human Soul into 3 compartments; the Men of Temperance, of Silver and Iron, and Men of Reasons/spirit. He argued that those suitable to lead others are the Men of Reasons, whom he called Philosopher Kings.
Therefore, Leadership is the most important determinant that brings about the needed changes and development in society. He/she will mobilize the energy and potential of the people, with sufficient spirit and systematic reasoning to achieve the concerted goals. Failure of leadership is catastrophic to man and society, because it affects the individual well-being and society, in general, to deteriorate into a precarious situation.
PRACTICAL PERSONALITY TRAITS
From the critical comparative analysis above to every sound mind, leadership recruitment has been the major to unenlightened, selfish, and sentimental people.
Hon Umar Bago as the case here, no doubt demonstrated the requisite details for a leader to bring out the energy of the Niger state which hitherto has been suppressed by a few hidden selfish interests.
He was born with a silver spoon, from both sides of his father and mother. He is well educated even by UNESCO standards. He is a graduate of political economic science, with a master’s degree in the management field.
He demonstrated his competence in the banking industry from middle level to higher class of financial management. He was the best commercial Banker who mobilized funds for the industry to unimaginable levels. He relates with everyone, to earn the trust that raises deposits for the Bank. The records are there!
His job with the Bank raises his profile to the majority of the people, which convinced him to resign voluntarily to join politics. Nigerlites can bear witness that when he joined politics, he then belongs to an opposition party, Congress For Progressive Change CPC. This Party then was lime duck in Niger state politics, especially in Minna where the ruling party then was People Democratic Party PDP. To the greatest amusement of the ruling party, Hon Umar defeated them overwhelmingly. Gradually, because of their magnanimous personality of reaching out to all classes of people in the community, he became very scary to the ruling party.

He single-handedly built Congress For Progressive Change CPC to great heights all over the Niger state, and make it a darling of the masses. By the time he wins the second time, the CPC has transformed into a national party to challenge PDP, after a merger to be known as All Progressive Congress APC.
From the foregone narration, we can see how Hon Umar Bago has transformed the constituency of chanchaga, the party, and the masses to greater heights. Even though his constituency is the entire Minna metropole, his hands in the development of the community, especially the less privileged and youths are noticeable. Don’t forget, as a legislator he has his clean-cut duties and responsibilities, different from the Executive. Minna is the seat of the government of Niger state.
As an Honorable Member, Umar Bago wins the heart and admiration of his colleagues in the chamber of the National Assembly. So much that he raised to contest as the Speaker of the House of Assembly. Records will serve as his witness, as the most popular to win, until the APC as a party decided to zone the office to the South West. Because of his patience and perseverance, he allowed democracy to take its course peacefully.
We can easily deduce from his antecedent that Hon Umar Bago possesses the personality traits required for the top job of governing Niger state to prosperity.
To put it, despite criticism, his wonderful performance scared some of his antagonists and the opposition attempted to malign his Personality now he is contesting the position of Governor of Niger state. Emotional and envy beclouded some people from appreciating this gentleman.
If we recollected the period before the party governorship primaries, he was almost relegated to the third position by some Media fora and propagandists. But to all persons that understand politics, it will be foolhardy to say of someone who built the party structure from grassroots to popularity, be defeated by new entrants overnight. He nurtures the structure from the beginning, he sustains it, hence he ripens the fruit of his hard work.
Some people took the nasty pleasure of accusing him of sponsoring thugs and youths gangsters. This is because a visit to his house will surprise you to be confronted with nearly thousands of youths and destitute he caters to twice daily. He addresses their feeding needs. This doesn’t go down well with some privileged people who failed in their responsibility, to do the same. So they tag him as such.
Some said he didn’t bring any development in terms of projects to his consistency. They decided to turn their eyes off the ball. They didn’t know that the majority of the mass projects were for Umar Bago. In some cases, you will mistake his projects to be that of the State government.
By the grace of God, Hon Umar Bago operated independently with conviction. He doesn’t fall on his knees for any godfather. His indefatigable efforts see him raise high with the masses at Heart. He is never broken down by threat intimidation and blackmail. He remains focused and mobmobilizesven if you dislike him, he will reach out to you. He believes your opposition may become your support anytime.
In conclusion, I submit that Hon Umar Bago is the suitable candidate to govern Niger state at the moment, for the youth, women, and social, cultural political, and economic development. If we need a New breed with a Clean record he is the best available now. By the time we approach the polling unit on the 18th of March 2023, we all agreed that we have recruited Hon Umar Bago to work selflessly for Niger State, vote, and vote for him to win with a large margin. That is my honest take.
