11 die as bus, cow truck collide in Niger

Eleven people have been confirmed dead in Niger State after a trailer collided with a bus returning from Lagos.
The accident occurred on Mokwa-Makera road in Mokwa Local Government Area at about 3.30 am on Tuesday.

The Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number FST 325 YE, which was Kaduna-bound, had a head collision with a Volvo Truck.

The truck, with registration number EKY 869 XE, which was conveying cattle, was leaving Kudu for Mokwa.

Nine people were confirmed dead on the spot while two others who were rushed to the Mokwa General hospital died on Tuesday afternoon.

The Niger FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Kumar Tsukwam, confirmed the crash.

He said it was caused by overspeeding and fatigue.

Tsukwam said that 22 people were involved in the accident, including 18 males, four females and two children.

He added that 10 people were injured while 11 died.

The dead include seven males, two females, and two children.

Tsukwam said the driver of the trailer was nowhere to be found and no one knows his whereabouts.
