12.2m New Registered PVCs Ready for Collection Next Month – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said the Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for fresh registrants that completed their registration in the last nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise would be ready by October or November.

INEC National Commissioner, Information and Publicity, Festus Okoye, stated this in Abuja.

Our correspondent reports that INEC, in the report of the exercise, said the number of fresh registrants stood at 12,298,944.

According to Okoye, while the PVCs would be ready for collection at the stated time, the commission is currently designing a new protocol for PVC collection.

“The commission was designing a new protocol for the collection of PVCs to make it easier and simpler for Nigerians to receive their PVCs,” Okoye said.

The existing mode of PVC collection requires an applicant to go to the INEC local government offices, with the Temporary Voter’s Cards (TVCs), which would be presented and handed over to the designated officials, who in turn would release the PVC to the applicant.

Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Prof. Yakubu, had also told Daily Trust that Nigerians should know that the CVR exercise was not concluded, but suspended till after the 2023 general elections.

He said the PVCs of citizens who registered between January and August 31st this year would be made available for collection from October this year.

According to him, the PVCs cannot be collected by proxy, as the rightful owners would have to appear in person to collect their cards after some documentation.

“All registered voters who submitted either their email addresses or phone numbers will be contacted when their cards are ready.”

He also appealed to all registered voters who have not yet collected their cards, except for those that registered between January and August this year, to proceed to the local government office where they registered to collect their cards.
