Gas explosion: Two injured in Ogun

An explosion at a gas plant near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, has left two persons with injuries.

The explosion yesterday sent huge flames into the sky.

Spokesman of the fire service Ayansiji Oluwasegun confirmed the incident, adding that the situation had been brought under control by a team of emergency containment agencies.

No life was lost, he said, but two persons were injured.

He traced the cause of the explosion to a gas truck which attempted to offload its product but collided with other empty trucks.

The impact, he noted, triggered a big explosion and then a fire outbreak.

People scampered for safety as the fire raged and affected some other trucks parked at the scene.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu who was among the first responders, said,  “The Agency, led by the Permanent Secretary, responded to distress calls and upon arrival discovered an explosion which had subsequently affected adjoining trucks in the compound.

“Further investigation revealed the fire actually started from the battery of one of the trucks before escalating to a gas cylinder resulting in a secondary explosion.”
