Piracy drops drastically in Nigeria, delisted from red list – DG NIMASA
EMERGENCY DIGEST- Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has said the delisting of Nigeria from the piracy red list of the International Maritime Bureau has paved the way for more economic transactions across the Gulf of Guinea.
Director General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Yusuf Jamoh, said this while signing a memorandum of understanding with the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology, Zaria.

The DG who attributed the success story to the inauguration of the Deep Blue Project by President Muhammad Buhari last year explained that the security measures put in place had yielded positive results.
He said, “Since the inauguration, the country has recorded zero piracy attacks throughout this year.
“And this is no doubt a tremendous success, especially on the part of NIMASA and the entire nation’s transport industry as a whole,” he said.
He added that the partnership between NIMASA and NITT, which is on maritime research and training would further develop manpower capacity and enhance effective service delivery.
In his response, Director General of NITT, Dr Bayero Salih-Farah, said the MoU would strengthen the working relationship between the agencies and translate into a rigorous approach to maritime concerns of the nation through research.
