Centre Conducts Study on Healthcare, Education for FCT Inhabitants

HipCity Innovation Centre, on Thursday, in Abuja, presented to the general public a document on the ‘Baseline Study on Improving Access to Inclusive Basic Services like Healthcare, education and WASH for the Original Inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Speaking at the document’s unveiling ceremony, Bassey Bassey, the Executive Director of the Innovation Centre, said their non-governmental organisation commissioned the baseline research study to assess the level of access and inclusive social services available to the original inhabitants.

He said the baseline study was conducted in 60 communities in the FCT, across the 6 Area Councils, 10 communities from each area council.

“The result of this baseline study do not only attest to the many years of government’s neglect of original inhabitants’ communities in terms of basic service provision, but notes the extent of government’s efforts so far while highlighting the gaps that still exist.

“It also contains suggestions and recommendations on how government can better provide social services that are accessible, inclusive, effective and long-term for FCT OIs.

“It is our hope that this baseline study would be an eye-opener and a tool that government and its agencies can leverage upon to begin to fast-track efforts to level the divide and alleviate the sufferings of the FCT OIs, especially those in the rural communities.

“By doing so, government can finally begin to correct the decades long injustice and marginalization that have become the hallmark of the existence of the FCT indigenes,” Bassey added.
