Banditry: Minister donates relief materials to victims  in Zamfara

EMERGENCY DIGEST- The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouk has donated relief materials to victims of banditry and other less privileged groups in Zamfara state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items were distributed to the beneficiaries in Gusau on Saturday through a popular Humanitarian Support Group in the state “Zamfara Youths Peace and Love Initiative”.

The National Chairman of the group, Mr Umar Abubakar, said the items were donated to the victims by the minister as part of measures to alleviate their sufferings.

Abubakar said the items comprised clothing materials and other household goods worth N10 million.

“We are presenting both women and children wears, school uniform, detergent and toiletries and shoes among others.

“The beneficieries of the gesture to include mainly women and children across the state especially those that were displaced from their communties as result of banditry activities facing the state.

“As we all know, one of the major activities of this group is to promote peace and stability in the society.

“We also have mandate to provide relief and educational support to victims of banditry activities and less privileged as well as  youths and women development,” Abubakar explained.

“We have earlier, donated various relief materials, including food and non food items at various locations and communities in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Abubakar Maradun represented by the Permanent Member in the Board, Aminu Anka, commended the foresight of the group in considering future of the less privileged.

“You have domostrated your commitments and patriotism in providing relief to families affected by disasters.

“This is a welcome development, I believe this gesture will provide succour to various affected families.

“I am giving you assurance of my personal commitment to all your activities in promoting lives of vulnerable groups,” Maradun added.

Abubakar gave an  assurance that the SUBEB and the state government, under Gov. Bello Matawalle, would continue to support the group at helping the needy.

The Managing Director, Zamfara Investment Company, Anas Hamis commended the minister for the gesture.

“This assistance not surprising coming from the minister because since her assumption in office, she has been providing various gestures to the state.

“Zamfara deserved all kinds of humanitarian support to the victims of banditry activities, considering the security challenges facing our communities,” Hamis said.

According to him, the minister deserves commendation for involving youths in governance and service to humanities.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the group, Mr  Muhammad Danbaza, called on the beneficiaries to utilise the items given to them judiciously.

Danbaza called on well meaning individuals, governments and non governmental organizations to donate to the victims of insecurity and other disasters in the state. (NAN)
