Residents Decry Govt Neglect As Floods Awash Over 313 Houses in Damboa

By Lawan Bukar Maigana

Displaced residents of Hausari community in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, have expressed worry after deserting their homes as a result of flooding occasioned by the heavy downpour.

The victims bemoans their awful situation in a video sighted by EMERGENCY DIGEST on Monday.

According to Babagana Bukar, a resident who is also a victim, ‘no fewer than 313 houses were flooded.’

“Many people have deserted their homes because of the flood. Some spent night with their two eyes open because they don’t have anywhere to rest.” Bukar added.

In his response, Alhaji Bukar Shettima said that his relatives, friends, and family have since abandoned their houses immediately after the flood.

“The rain affects our community every year and the government didn’t do anything about it. Let the government construct roads in our community so that the water will go straight to the river without taking over our houses.”

Also, another youth in the community, Bulama Modu recounted his ordeal on how  the flood affected his residence and rendered him homeless.

The residents called on the government of Borno State to as a matter of urgency come to their aid and take the necessary action to avoid the future occurrence of floods in their community.

Meanwhile, EMERGENCY DIGEST had earlier reported how floods displaced several communities in Ogun and Bauchi states recently.
