Police arrest doctor for battering maid in Edo
A pediatrician with the Federal Government-owned Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Irrua in Edo State, Dr. Chiamaka Ogbonnaya, has been arrested by the police for allegedly battering her maid, Comfort (surname withheld), a Junior Secondary School 2 student.
The medical doctor was accused of frequently brutalising the maid on her ribcage with the mopping stick, turning stick, cane and other objects in sight and also sending her out and giving her raw rice as food for one week.

The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed in Benin yesterday that Ogbonnaya was arrested by the Irrua Division of the police command for child abuse.
Nwabuzor disclosed that the matter was being investigated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation in the command, while he assured that further development on the matter would be made public.
Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Oviawe, said she would respond to enquiries upon getting full report of the incident.
But she declared that there was zero tolerance for child abuse in the state.
