Youth Idleness Aggravating Social Disorder — Osinbajo
EMERGENCY DIGEST- Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has warned that an idle and youthful population is increasing the risk of social instability in the country.
He gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja at the formal launch of the Integrated Regional Human Capital Development Strategy documents of the Human Capital Development (HCD) Programmes for Nigeria and ECOWAS by the Core Working Group on Human Capital Development of the National Economic Council (NEC).
The VP said the continent was racing against time, hence the need to plan and invest in human capital development, healthcare, nutrition, quality education, skills, and jobs.

Osinbajo said that the continent must invest in relevant skills as well as provide good paying jobs and opportunities for the youths.
In her remarks, the Head of the NEC-HCD Core Working Group, Ms. Yosola Akinbi, noted that the HCD programme was designed in recognition of the crucial role that human capital development plays in addressing poverty and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
Also speaking, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule who spoke on behalf of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) said states would continue to be committed to human capital development.
At the event was the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, Mr Nuno Gomes Nabiam; representatives of the vice presidents of Sierra Leone and Senegal; and the Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Finda Koroma, among others.
