NSCDC deploys 9,747 operatives for Ekiti guber poll

EMERGENCY DIGEST- THE Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 9,747 operatives for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO) Olusola Odumosu made it known in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement said NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Audi, who approved the deployment, charged all the personnel involved in election duty to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

Audi advised the NSCDC men to discharge their duties in line with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Corps, which serves as a guide in operations.

Audi stressed that the Corps must remain apolitical and neutral to avoid any form of compromise during the election.

He said that the operatives had been deployed to ensure security at the 2,445 polling units where voting will take place, as well as collation centers, flashpoints and criminal hideouts.

The NSCDC boss, according to the statement, also said that necessary machinery had been put in place to provide effective security for INEC officials and their materials before, during and after the election.

Audi assured Ekiti residents of a hitch-free election, noting that the Corps is working in synergy with other security agencies to protect the electorate and arrest criminals that may try to destabilize the election.

He warned parents to ensure that their wards are not used to hijack ballot boxes or cause mayhem during the exercise.

The statement explained that the operatives deployed for the election were drafted from Kogi, Edo, Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Zone J and the National Headquarters of the Corps.
