Police thwart attack on Abuja-Kaduna road, rescue 3

EMERGENCY DIGEST- A security team comprising police and military personnel has intercepted a group of bandits at Sabon Sara village attempting to gain access to the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

Kaduna police spokesman Mohammad Jalige said in a statement yesterday that the troops rescued a Chinese and two others abducted by the bandits.

Jalige said a team of Operation Puff Adder and Operation Thunder Strike observed the suspicious movement of armed bandits at Sabon Sara village and took the battle to them.

He said a “severe exchange of fire ensued between the security personnel and the bandits, forcing the outlaws to scamper for safety.

The kidnapped Chinese national and two other persons were rescued, Jalige said, adding that the bandits abandoned eight of their operational motorcycles.

“The injured victims,” he said, “have been conveyed to a hospital for medical attention, while recovered exhibits are being analysed, while efforts are on to arrest the bandits.

“The Commissioner of Police Kaduna Command Yekini Ayoku applauded the renewed commitment and synergy between the police and sister agencies.”
