Military Troops Destroy 49 Illegal Refineries in N/Delta Creeks

Troops of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed 49 illegal refineries during a raid at creeks in the South South.

275 polythene bags containing illegally-refined AGO, 146 ovens, 145 receivers, 4 boilers, 125 metal storage tanks, 8 GP tanks, 19 drums, 69 50-litre jerry cans, 81 galvanized pipes, and 85 dugout pits, were said to have been impounded by troops during their operation.

Maj. Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, Acting Director, Defense Media Operation (DMO), disclosed this at a media briefing on military operations, across the country.

He said troops of Operation Delta Safe, have in the last two weeks, intensified operations against oil thieves and other economic saboteurs in different communities, towns, villages and creeks in Delta State.

Oyeuko, further disclosed that troops neutralized a militant, recovered 6,679,000 litres of illegal refined AGO, 4,436,000 litres of stolen crude oil, a gun boat, a BMG gun, an AK-47 rifle, several rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 12 motorcycles, 20 wooden boats, and 15 pumping machines.

“Furthermore, 70 economic saboteurs associated with pipeline vandalization and other criminal elements were apprehended. All recovered items and apprehended criminals have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action,” said Oyeuko.
