REVEALED: Raped IDP in Maiduguri didn’t kill herself

Aisha Umar, an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) in Maiduguri, who was said to have killed herself out of frustration after she was raped by an NGO worker, didn’t kill herself, her relative has revealed in a latest twist.

Her relative who asked to remain anonymous confirmed it in an interview with Emergency Digest on the phone on Wednesday evening, saying that Aisha told them that she didn’t stab herself as claimed by the alleged rapist.
“Aisha has asked us to seek forgiveness from her mother for not informing her before she accompanied her friend, with whom they went to Huzaifa’s house to work. She said that she didn’t kill herself. He raped her, beat her up, and locked her up,” the source said.
According to the source, the alleged rapist stabbed Aisha,15, when she attempted to run. Huzaifa caught her and stabbed her with the knife.
“She then shouted and called for help from neighbours.”
