Ganduje Calls for Calm after Hisbah Personnel, Irate Youth Clash in Kano

EMERGENCY DIGEST- Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has called on the people in the state to remain calm and desist from engaging in any act capable of shattering the prevailing peace which the government has long worked for in the state.

He, therefore, called on the people, particularly the youths, to work towards maintaining the harmonious and peaceful coexistence between the diverse ethnic nationalities living in the state.

In a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, in the wake of clashes between Hisbah personnel and irate youths in Sabon Gari area of the Kano metropolis last Tuesday night, the governor warned the people not to capitalise on the situation to perpetrate violence capable of throwing the state into chaos.

He appealed for synergy between various arms of security agencies in the state and apprised that security operatives should not shy away from confronting threats to peace, law and order even if it means taking hard decisions that will better the common good and public interest.

According to the statement, “As a government working for the peace, security, unity and progress of the state, we will not toy with our constitutional and statutory responsibility.’’

While the statement maintained that the government, security agencies and people of conscience would continue to work for peace, law, and order, it also called for security operatives to always be civil in the discharge of their responsibilities.

It further appealed to the people to be law-abiding as well as support security agencies in maintaining the prevailing peace in the state.
