NSCDC Officer Emerges Integrity Icon Awards Over-All Winner

An officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in Kogi State, Mr. Musa Agono, yesterday emerged the over-all winner of the Integrity Icon Awards.

The awards event was organized by Accountability Lab Nigeria.

Agono won the first position after garnering over 1,800 votes. He defeated four other nominees to win the gold award.

The award ceremony was held at Rock View Royale Hotel in Abuja on Thursday.

The Kogi NSCDC officer, and his co-finalists, received award plaques presented to them by eminent guests at the event.

Agono, assured guests at the event that he will continue to exhibit and propagate the virtues of integrity, which made him emerged the over-all winner.

In his welcome address, Odey Friday, Country Director of AL Nigeria, lamented that lack of accountability within the Nigerian Public Service has broken the trust of the citizens and increased the inefficiency in the system.

“From the security sector to education, health, and the justice system, we clearly see a system that is inefficient.

“We are now living in a society where the freedoms and rights of citizens are in constant contention, the voices of citizens are being muzzled and the civic space is gradually being shrunk.

“The ban of Twitter, the Lekki Tollgate shooting, the EndSars protest, and others are just symptoms of a lack of accountability in the public service,” he said.

According to the AL Country Director, there is need to have a conversation that would help us promote, inculcate and institutionalise these two critical components – integrity and accountability – needed in building a nation we all can be proud of and the next generation can be grateful for.
