Rival gang clash claims 1, injure others in Minna

Joint Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Local Vigilantes have intensified patrol of Minna metropolis and environs to check excalating rival war between gangsters from some hamlets in Minna, the state capital and its environs.

Renewed hostilities in the cult/gansgter’s tussle for supremacy between Limawa and Angwan-Daji, all within Minna metropolis stemmed from a failed relationship between a boy from Angwan-Daji and his lover from Limawa.

The strained relationship between the groups started when the parents of the girlfriend from Limawa decided to give her out in marriage to someone else.

Daily Independent investigations revealed that, trouble however started when the arrow-head confronted the family of his supposed girlfriend whom he had kept for about five years without proposing marriage to her.

Worried by the development and the discovery that the boy has no known means of survival, the family of the girl decided to give her out in marriage to another suitor because, ‘this boy has not shown any comitments to marrying our daughter’, the source explained.

This singular decision by the parent of the girl, our correspondent further gathered did not go down well with the boy who in an attempt to avenge the family’s decision mobilised his gang members and comfront the family of his now, ex-girlfriend.

Resolving to ‘teach the family a lesson’, the lover boy whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of this report allegedly unleashed his gang on the family of his ex-girl friend located at the back of the popular Obasanjo shopping Complex, Minna, stabbed her father and left some other family members with various degrees of injuries.

Already, a life has been lost and many others, including the father of the girl severly injured, this our correspndent learnt prompted in reprisal attack from ‘Limawa boys’ chalenging the audacity of the Angwan-Daji lover and his gang to have invaded their territory over an issue that is his own making and trying to get away with it.

Over the weekend, the gangsters’ battle turned into full blown free for all street fight shifted to Okada road through Bosso area with some of them using dangerous weapons against one another thereby causing obstruction of human and vehicular movements.

Though the Police could not confirm the death of one of the gangsters days after, our correspondent‘s finding indicated that there may be more than one life lost with different accounts of what transpired within the rival groups.

One of the local vigilante members is said to have mistakenly fired a shot as fierce fight ensued between the gangsters at the Obasanjo complex, but the bullet mysteriously hit him and he died few days later.

Another version giving account of the incident said that one of the gangsters had died few days after he was severely inflicted with deep matchete cuts on his body and neck which took three doctors hours battling to save his life.

Meanwhile, as the gangs mobilise for more attacks, Niger state Police command has warned parents and guardians to call their wards to order as, ‘Enough is Enough’ of threats to the peaceful coexixtence of residents of Minna metropolis and environs.
