Scores killed as bandits razed police post, patrol van in Zamfara

EMERGENCY DIGEST- About 12 persons were killed by suspected bandits who stormed Sakajiki Village of Kauran Namoda Local Government area of Zamfara State and unleashed deadly attack on the villagers.

A resident of the area disclosed that 12 persons were killed, 19 shops and many houses were torched while a police outpost, and seven vehicles including two police patrol vans were also burnt.

Search for more corpses and those who ran into the bush for fear of their dear life was still ongoing at the time of writing this report.

Our source further revealed that the bandits, well-armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the village around 9:00pm, Thursday and continued with their operation.

They also engaged security operatives who were stationed to secure the area until 4:00 am Friday.

He said the police mobile operatives tried their best to repel the attack, but the bandits over-powered them.

When contacted, Zamfara Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident but did not give any figure of the casualties.

Shehu stressed that the casualties could be more if not for the response of the police operatives.

He assured that the State Commissioner of Police had already deployed additional squad for re-enforcement.

“Zamfara Police will redouble its effort to ensure that banditry is wiped out of the state.” Shehu Said.
