Nigeria won’t Disintegrates, Bishop Nwanko to IPOB, MASSOB
A national leader of the Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), Bishop David Nwankwo, has told members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and those wishing to secede from Nigeria to perish the thought because the country would not disintegrate anytime soon. This is just as the cleric has also urged the federal government to quickly commence the process of integrating every segment of the country into the governance process.
Nwanko, who is the national director of research in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), spoke in Enugu during a leadership retreat for members of the OAIC in the Southeast zone. OAIC is one of the blocks of the umbrella Christian organization, CAN. The cleric, who said he did not believe that Nigeria would disintegrate anytime soon, however, warned that things must not be taken for granted. While admitting that Nigeria was going through rough times, he noted that “life in itself is a challenge, so we just want to remind ourselves of what we need to do in order to navigate through this process.

“The church is not different from the society, our prayer is that the lord will help us, all we need to do is to keep on praying. We don’t need to lose hope. Nigeria is a project, we need to pray. It is in the hand of God. I don’t see disintegration coming soon, but that does not mean if you put a fire in the house it will not burn. All we are saying is for individuals, let us be fair, the problem we have in Nigeria is injustice, if we are fair and do good to all men, without segregating or loving this side, hating the other side, I think Nigeria will be better, I don’t see Nigeria disintegrating, I believe in Nigeria, there are countries that are at war, I pray we don’t come to that point.”
Also speaking, Dr. Victor Ivoke, national secretary, OAIC, said the CAN block was concerned as every other Nigerian because they were equally affected by whatever was happening in the country. “The church as a body doesn’t have a different market or economy different from where everybody goes, so whatever happens to the society affects the church and that is why once in a while, the church leaders’ hold retreat to examine issues in the polity, proffer solutions and pray for the country which is why we are here today,” he added.
Earlier, the representative of the international President of OAIC, His Grace, Most Rev. Daniel Okoh said the church still believed in the efficacy of prayer. “There is no other thing we can do except to pray, asking God to bring peace and to make the economy grow, people are suffering, masses are suffering and there is nothing we can do except to pray for the survival of the nation.”
