One killed as police repel kidnap attempt in FCT
One person has been killed, following a gun battle between the anti-kidnapping squad of the federal capital territory (FCT) police command and some suspected kidnappers.
One of the suspects was said to have been killed when operatives of the squad responded to a distress call on the operation of a kidnapping gang, along Kabi Mangoro axis.
According to PRNigeria, a police source said the attack was repelled.
“We successfully repelled them, killing one of the suspects. But the other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds,” the source said.
Mariam Yusuf, the FCT police spokesperson, confirmed the incident
“We are trailing the other suspects,” she said.
When asked for further details on the incident, the spokesperson declined, saying that the police are currently carrying out an investigation
Several cases of kidnapping have been reported within the FCT since January 2021, with many of the abductors demanding ransom for the release of their victims.
It was reported how just about six weeks into the year, 27 people were kidnapped in the territory.
But FCT police has, on some occasions, reported success in its efforts with some victims rescued, while several kidnappers have been arrested.
The police command in FCT has also assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property within its jurisdiction.
