Katsina inaugurates security committees


The Katsina State Government yesterday inaugurated Security Watch Committees in Funtua zone as part of efforts by the government to curtail banditry attacks and growing insecurity in the areas. The zone comprises 11 local government areas mostly in the frontline security-prone areas.

The local government areas affected are Bakori, Danja, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa, Funtua, Malumfashi, Kafur, Musawa, Matazu and Kankara.

While inaugurating the Committee at the Bala Abdullahi College of Administration in Funtua, the Chairman of the Security Committee and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr Mustapha Inuwa said the security structure law recently enacted by the Katsina State House of Assembly will, by extension, give traditional rulers the authority to interface, act and deal with the security challenges in their domains.

He maintained that the law which is in fulfillment of Governor Masari’s campaign promises to restore peace and security in the state and also to domesticate security arrangements at the grassroots level by ensuring that traditional rulers were given their power to make security administration easier and result-oriented.

The District Head of Ketare, Bello Usman Kankara described the decision taken by the state government as one that will address insecurity.

In another development, the Katsina  State Government has reserved 7,000 hectares out of 122,000 hectares of land reserve allocated for grazing for the implementation of the proposed N6.25 billion ranch project recently approved for the state by the Federal Government.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari disclosed this in Katsina at a stakeholders’ workshop involving leaders and representatives of herdsmen and farmers.
