Soldiers intercept bags of hemp on River Niger

Troops of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have foiled an attempt to smuggle 20 bags of illicit drugs suspected to be marijuana into Asaba, the Delta State capital, through the River Niger.
It was gathered that the soldiers on routine patrol spotted a speedboat on the waterways and pursued it but the occupants fled, abandoning the vessel.

Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain George Okupe who confirmed the incident in a statement, said, “A search was conducted on the boat which led to the discovery of 20 bags of illicit substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.”

The statement added that the recovered drugs were handed over to Delta State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
