Minna: Gov. Bello Dismisses Taskforce For Enforcement Of Ban On Commercial Motorcycles
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has dismissed a joint security task force for the enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles operation also known as okada in Minna the state capital.
The governor, represented by his Deputy Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso dismiss the task force, comprising Police, Civil Defence, Nigerian Army, and local security operatives among others at the trade fair complex in Minna.
Flagging off the exercise, the governor explained that enforcement has become imperative to ensure the safety of lives and property of the citizens of the state.
He enjoined the joint security task force to carry out the exercise in accordance with the rules of engagement.
“I urged you all not to carry out this exercise with impunity, maintain the rules of engagement,” he said.

The governor said that whoever violates the ban will be prosecuted while assuring that the joint task force of the government’s unalloyed support.
“Anybody who resist or disobey the order, the person should be made to face the wrath of the law. We can not afford to enact a law for the protection of lives and property and people will violate the law,” he added.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Usman assured that the state government’s policy on the ban will be enforced effectively and within the confines of the law.
The state government had recently announced the ban of commercial motorcycles operation in the state capital as part of measures to address insecurity challenges bedeviling the state.
Private motorcycles are, however, allowed to operate between the hours of 6 am- 9 pm.
