Army probes alleged killing, extortion by its personnel in Katsina
The Nigeria Army authority has commenced investigation into the alleged involvement of its personnel in the murder and extortion of a woman in Katsina State.
It was alleged that the yet to be identified woman was arrested in a commercial vehicle with the sum of #420,000 by vigilante’s group on Wednesday 7 May 2021 at about 10:00 PM, in Yankara village along Funtua-Gusau road and was handed over to the troops in order to interrogate the source of the money. A few days later the woman was said to be killed by the troops.

In a statement by The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima said the Army would not tolerate any act of misconduct and unprofessionalism from its personnel.
Brig. Gen. Yerima appealed to the general public to remain calm as it is determined to get to the root of the matter.
He assured the public that anyone found guilty in connection with the allegation would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The Army spokesman, however, reiterated the commitment of the military in protecting the lives and properties of the citizens in accordance with its constitutional responsibility and strict adherence to the rules of engagements in its operations.
