JUST IN: NAF Moves to Takes Action After Series of Air  Crashes, Constitute a Committee to Investigate

The Nigerian Air Force has established a committee to conduct a safety on its operational and engineering units . The move becomes after three of the force’s jets crashed within three months, killing at least 20 military officers.

Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), has constituted a committee of serving and retired senior officers to conduct a safety audit of all Nigerian Air Force (NAF) operational and engineering units.

This is contained in a statement signed by NAF’s spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet and made available to Legit.ng on Tuesday, May 25.

Among other terms of reference, the committee will analyse safety reports from operational and engineering units, conduct safety evaluation of NAF units and recommend measures to enhance the safety of operations in the units.

Legit.ng gathers that the committee is also tasked to interact with unit operational and technical personnel for views, observations and contributions on safety measures.

The committee chaired by Air Vice Marshal Abraham Adole, the Deputy Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, is expected to submit its report not later than Friday, June 18.

It was noted that the NAF made the move after multiple plane crashes in the last three months claimed the lives of at least 20 military officers.

The latest of the crashes killed the Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other military officers in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria (AIB -N) said it has recovered the black box of the crashed Nigerian Air Force plane which claimed the life of the COAS.

The bureau disclosed that the Flight Data Recorder and the Cockpit Voice Recorder from the crashed aircraft have been recovered and investigation has commenced.

The federal agency stated that the next step is for investigators to download and analyse the information contained in the recorders at the AIB-N’s world-class Flight Safety Laboratory, in Abuja.
