Benue Journalists Condemn Assasination Attempt on Gov Ortom by Suspected Killer Herdsmen

The Conference of Benue Journalists (CBJ) has condemned in strong terms, last weekend’s broad-day light attack and assassination attempt on Governor Samuel Ortom by suspected killer herdsmen.

CBJ in a statement by its Vice President, Ewache Ajefu said it was worried that this brazen attempt on the life of Governor Ortom, and the recent killing of the brother of one of the former governors in the state is a deliberate effort to make the State ungovernable.

“We categorically warn that nothing must happen to Governor Ortom, and therefore, urge the Federal Government to step up security machinery to end all forms of criminality in the country, in order to be seen as living up to its responsibility of protecting lives and property,” Ewache stressed.

The CBJ Vice President noted that while members of the group commend the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu for swiftly deploying a team of specialized investigators to fish out the perpetrators, they call on Governor Ortom never to be deterred by the attack but should remain focused and courageous in providing good leadership to the people of the state.

CBJ is an association of professional media practitioners of Benue origin with members spread across the country; and with the sole objective of promoting, projecting and defending the interests of the people and the state in general.
