IPOB: The Antics of a Coneman Nnamdi Kanu By Chinedu Okoronko

Since 2015, Nnamdi Kanu, a United Kingdom based Nigerian has been championing a separatist movement named Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. The aim of this movement is to agitate for an independent country for the former eastern region of Nigeria now comprising five states namely; Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Imo and Enonyi.
Before 2015, Nnamdi was relatively an unknown person until he became the leader of IPOB. When he came to limelight, some people especially the young people of Igbo extraction took him very serious.

Following the arrest of Kanu in October 2015 and his subsequent court trials, his supporters on November 23, 2015 stormed Abuja, the Nigerian capital in many luxury buses on a peaceful protest outside the court premises. Same protests were held in Onitsha in Anambra state and in Aba in Abia state. The protesters were calling for the release of their leader.

Since the grant of bail to kanu through the instrumentality of a bail bond that was signed by Senator Eyinenya Abaribe, Kanu has remained evasive.

The recent audio in circulation that captures the voice of Nnamdi Kanu directing the shut down of IPOB in United Kingdom is typical of a dictator, a power monger and one who is selfish and full of himself.
His language and tone is hostile, not decent, vulgar and not fitting for one who is championing a separatist movement.

It is time that followers of Kanu should critically examine his role because his recent outing depicts him as one who is just interested in making money using the guise of the leader of IPOB.

It is also important to stress that Kanu is not a true leader. A true leader is usually polished and very clear in thoughts pattern, decent in speech with a good temperament. Such manner of speech is only associated with people who are thugs and narcissistic in nature.

It is therefore pertinent to point out that one who cannot work with a team is not capable of being called a leader. For a leader to succeed, he must work with dedicated team. These qualities are lacking in the person of Kanu whose behaviour is typical of a clone.

From every indication, Kanu is using the IPOB as a smokescreen to get funds so as to finance his high life style and it is time to expose him so that people would not fall prey to his antics. Kanu should come out clear with his intentions.

More so, the members of IPOB and other Ndi Igbo in the United Kingdom should accept the shut down Kanu has called. They should not only accept it but they should as well stop the funding of the activities of IPOB under the leadership of Kanu. In addition, they should call on Kanu to render an account of all the monies he has received from various groups and individuals pursuant to the course of IPOB.
